A tempered multiscaling stable model to simulate transport in regional‐scale fractured media

چکیده
[1] Accurate and efficient simulation of contaminant transport in fractured rock is practically important, yet current approaches suffer from numerical constraints that limit the full inclusion of fracture network properties at the regional scale. We propose a multidimensional transport model, nonlocal in space and time, which describes complex transport behavior in fractured media at regional scales, without introducing the computational burden of explicitly incorporating individual rock fractures. The model utilizes a direction‐dependent tempered stable process to describe the transition of multiscaling anomalous diffusion to asymptotic diffusion limits. Applications show that the model can capture efficiently the transient superdiffusion found in two‐dimensional synthetic fracture networks, and suggest that the truncation of leading plume edges is related to fracture network properties. Modeling mixed retention and early arrivals in multidimensional heterogeneous media using an explicit Lagrangian scheme
This study develops an explicit two-step Lagrangian scheme based on the renewal-reward process to capture transient anomalous diffusion with mixed retention and early arrivals in multidimensional media. The resulting 3-D anomalous transport simulator provides a flexible platform for modeling transport. The first step explicitly models retention due to mass exchange between one mobile zone and a...
متن کاملLagrangian characterization of contaminant transport through multidimensional heterogeneous media with limited heterogeneity information
Solute transport through regional-scale fractured rocks and heterogeneous porous media typically exhibits several “anomalous” features including 1) different growth rates along different directions, due to an anisotropic depositional or structural geologic environment; and 2) channeling along preferential flow paths. Simulating such plume characteristics can be computationally intensive using a...

[1] This paper investigates whether particle ensembles in a fractured rock domain may be adequately modeled as an operator-stable plume. If this statistical model applies to transport in fractured media, then an ensemble plume in a fractured rock domain may be modeled using the novel Fokker-Planck evolution equation of the operator-stable plume. These plumes (which include the classical multi-G...
متن کاملLattice Boltzmann modeling for tracer test analysis in a fractured Gneiss aquifer
Fractured Gneiss aquifers present a challenge to hydrogeologists because of their geological complexity. Interpretation methods which can be applied to porous media cannot be applied to fractured Gneiss aquifers because flow and transport occur in fractures, joints, and conduits. In contrast, the rock matrix contribution to groundwater flow is not very important in Gneiss aquifers. Sodium chlor...

In the present study, tried to examine the reactive solute relationships for transport and degradation processes through the rockfill media. By applying the analytical solution of reactive transport, the 1st to 3rd theoretical temporal moments have been extracted then, by using two methods of curve fitting and temporal moment matching, the coefficients of dispersion and degradation have been ex...
